ROBOTICS & CODING

Key Learning Outcomes: 21st Century skills of creative Thinking, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, and Communication skills.

COURSE: Elementary Robotics with GIGO

Age Group: 5 - 7 year-olds Time: 15hr - 17hr Mon-Fri OR Saturdays 9hr - 11hr Duration: 90 - 120 minutes per lesson weekly Venue: ElementaryLab, Sandown Square Number of Lessons: 36 Curriculum Content: Simple hands-on building and coding of robots through scenarios and stories make learning fun. Covers important programming concepts like sequences, loops, functions, conditional statements, events, algorithms, and variables. Use a variety of instructions (FWD, BWD, turn L/R, pause, and spin).  Use math mode to develop children’s number skills.

COURSE: Elementary Robotics with WeDo 2 - L1

Age Group: 7 - 8 year-olds Time: 15hr - 17hr Mon-Fri OR Saturdays 9hr - 11hr Duration: 90 - 120 minutes per lesson weekly Venue: Elementary Lab, Sandown Square Number of Lessons: 36 Curriculum Content: Students are introduced to the fundamentals of computer science and mechanical engineering. Your child will learn to build, code, and test various robotic models covering Life, Physical, Earth, and Space Sciences, and Engineering.

COURSE: Elementary Robotics with WeDo 2 - L2

Age Group: 8 - 9 year-olds Time: 15hr - 17hr Mon-Fri OR Saturdays 9hr - 11hr Duration: 90 - 120 minutes per lesson weekly Venue: Elementary Lab, Sandown Square Curriculum Content: This level covers advanced robotics models, fosters the development of innovative thinking, and gives opportunity for the students to embark on a project at the end of the year.

COURSE: Junior - Senior Robotics

with Spike Prime/ EV3 - L1

Age Group: 10 - 16 year-olds Time: 15hr - 17hr or Saturdays 9hr - 11hr Duration: 90 - 120 minutes per lesson weekly Venue: ElementaryLab, Sandown Square Curriculum Content: Introduction to robotics (hardware and software), Basic Navigation, Good Practice, Sensors, Technical Robot Design, and Troubleshooting fundamentals.

COURSE: Junior - Senior Robotics

with Spike Prime/ EV3 - FLEXIBLE

Age Group: 10 - 18 year-olds Time: 15hr - 17hr or Saturdays 9hr - 11hr Duration: 90 - 120 minutes per lesson weekly Venue: ElementaryLab, Sandown Square Curriculum Content: Concepts covered include Entrepreneurship, Inventions, Life Hack, Mathematics and Science. Ideal for a team that are not interested in participating in competitions, and prefer to explore different topics each week.

COURSE: Junior - Senior Robotics

with Spike Prime/ EV3 - L2

Age Group: 15 - 18 year-olds Time: 15hr - 17hr or Saturdays 9hr - 11hr Duration: 90 - 120 minutes per lesson weekly Venue: ElementaryLab, Sandown Square Number of Lessons: 36 Curriculum Content: Intermediate to Advanced programming, Advanced Technical Robot Designs, Understanding Strategy.

ROBOTICS COMPETITIONS

Robotics competitions have the potential to significantly add a positive impact on student engagement and learning, fostering a range of positive outcomes such as Increased self-confidence, teamwork and problem-solving skills, the development of self-determination, Creative thinking, Career preparations, and Networking.

Age Group: 8 - 19 year-olds Duration: February - December each year About: A global Themed Annual Robotics Competition that starts in Feb, with Regionals (Aug), Nationals (Nov/ Dec), and Internationals (Dec) rounds. Teams design, build, and program an autonomous vehicle that executes missions within specific rules. Best performing teams can become eligible for national and global competitions. Registration Fee: ~R300 p.p (to the national organiser) KIA Fee: Additonal R300 p.m for (dedicated device for 4 months)

Age Group: 6 - 16 year-olds Duration: February - December each year About: Another annual global robotics competition that starts in Aug with Regionals (Oct), Nationals (Nov/ Dec) and Internationals (Jan/ Feb). Teams design, build, and program an autonomous vehicle that executes missions within specific rules. Team also embark on an Innovation Project which involves Research and Presentations. Best performing teams can become eligible for national and global competitions. Registration Fee: ~R750 per team (to the national organiser) KIA Fee: R300 p.m for (dedicated device for 3 months)

ANIMATION

Age Group: 12 - 16 year-olds Duration: 6 months About: A 2D digital animation course where students work with timelines, frames and keyframes, a staging area, and a library of assets - concepts involved in Adobe animate. This hands-on training will combine the creative and technical aspects of 2D product design and involves project-based learning from day one. Student develop a project while learning. This will give the students an opportunity to learn the skills and master the technical aspect of Visual, Motion, Interaction design and User interface design to build portfolios that could be used beyond the program.

SCRATCH Animation Course

Age Group: 7 - 9 year-olds Duration: 6 months About: An introduction into animation where students will learn how to work with existing assets to create animation products through code.
